Online tuition

Many students support their school lessons or private one-to-one learning with online tuition, usually via Zoom or Skype. It saves travelling time, the time slots can be very flexible, and one still has a visual contact via the screen. It is a very good option for busy working people who find it hard to fit in lessons. For some, it may be the only possible way to learn German, and they may only want to personally meet the tutor once – or maybe not at all!

Examples of how online lessons can work

Homework and exercise sheets can be sent by email beforehand, and corrected work returned, so online communication can still cover the four skills areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. During the lessons, documents, videos and audio can be shared , and the chat box allows for immediate writing. Role plays are no problem either. Even if no documents are exchanged, I will always encourage students to practise sending emails in German as this is such a valuable part of the communication experience.

Zoom or Skype teaching saves the travelling part of the tutor’s fee, so it is more cost-effective for the student if the personal contact is not important.
