Personal Description
Ute O’Meara
Hello and welcome to German Tutor in Suffolk. My name is Ute O’Meara and I am a native speaker of German from North Germany, where dialect-free ‘Hochdeutsch’ is spoken. I have lived and worked in England for over 30 years, but travelled to Germany frequently to stay in touch with family, friends and the way of life there. Recently, I moved to Bavaria for two years, where I explored the regions of Germany that I had not frequently visited before. Having returned to the UK, I now live near Bury St Edmunds.
Over 25 years of German language teaching have given me experience at all levels, from teaching younger children to supporting secondary school students in their work for GCSE and A-level, or older students for access to university courses. I have also worked with business customers for communication within, or presentations of, their specific industries.
My approach to teaching German
Whether working on a one-to-one level or with a group of students, I provide a personal approach to supporting students’ learning, focus on their outcome target, and take into account the way they are able to learn best. I prepare individualised lesson material, and also try to make lessons fun and interesting – this way students work better!
In my graphic design career, I had to listen carefully to clients’ briefs, as well as matching the budget and time frame, and the same principle applies to teaching a language. Students have targets, sometimes experience in some of the language skills but not others, or, indeed, lack confidence (mostly in speaking!). If they have to pass an examination, have limited time and money, we need to be very focussed as a team! That is why I firmly believe in a personal, individual approach to teaching.
Please get in touch via the Contacts page if you’d like to have a chat about how we could work together – and don’t worry, we don’t have to speak German yet!
