Learning German for business will usually focus on the employer’s or the student’s line of business and will therefore be very specific to that industry and the purpose of study.
Why learn German for your business?
The aim could be, for example, to teach a group of employees basic conversational skills (person to person, telephone conversations, emailing and video conferencing) after company restructuring or a company takeover. It could be a new position requiring travel to a German-speaking country and selling or giving presentations there.
It could be a promotion to work for the German division of a British company – and any of these tasks could be quite a challenge! Whereas English is frequently spoken to some extent at business level in Germany, it is a different matter addressing the audience at a German conference or dealing with German customers at a sales office in Germany where English may not be spoken well enough.
Business students need a tailor-made approach for their German lessons. These may be carried out at the client’s workplace or simply taught via video conferencing.
